CD Changer packed up ?

Hi.

Driving along yesterday in my 2000 M coupe', ( with the standard BMW sound setup ) when i changed the CD playing but received a "CD Error" message on the head. It refused to play any further tho the radio still worked. Then i tried to remove the CD cartridge and it refused to eject it.

I had a similar problem with a JVC in a honda once and removing the battery terminal extinguished the "reset' message on the head and it started working again.

I tried the battery terminal trick with the BMW but all that happened is that the message changed from CD error to ' NO Discs '.

What can i do ? The local sound shop says its because i played a copied disc and burned out, wore out, or jammed the laser ?
If so, fine but then why wont it spit the cartridge out. ?

There seem to be two factory models of (6) cd changer A and B. One has a cover that flaps down and has a reset button close to the eject button but mine has a sideways manual sliding cover with no reset button.

universal trick for ejecting a CD mag: take a credit card, and "pop" it underneath the mag, like you are swiping the card at a gas pump. 90% of the time that will eject the mag. If it doesn't you have a CD stuck halfway in and halfway out. if that is the case, you need to open the changer cover, and manuual rotate the gears to slide it back into place.

It worked. It popped right out and simply worked fine when i put it back in.
