CD changer not being recognised

Hello All

This is my 1st post.

I recently bought a new 318 (e46), and i'm having problems with the 6 cd changer in the boot. The head unit is factory fitted and seems to be working ok.

When i start the car 1st time, the CD changer isnt recognised by the hed unit, however if i switch the ignision to the off point, leave it for 5 seconds then on again the head unit displays 'Reg Off', and the CD changer can then be seen.

Once this is done the system works fine and cd's are played and changed as normal, until i switch the car off and lock the car, then i have to do it again.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have exactley the same problem with my BMW E46 318 Ci (2000 X Reg).

Most frustrating.

This is mostly a guess, but I think the hunt should begin with a faulty relay.

Is there is a reset button on the changer and headunit? Check your owners manual to see if there is a way to reset both units. I havent heard of this problem before, I would be curious to know the answer.
