CD changer for my 95 318i

I am new to the forum. My previous BMW experience was 3 years with an E30 325i, but because I drive many miles to work and the price of gas is so high, I am now the proud owner of a 5-speed E36 1995 318i.

My question regards the correct BMW OEM part number for the CD changer in this vehicle. 1995 appears to have been a transitional year, and it looks like my options for an aftermarket changer are few and far between. Additionally, I am seeking to pay as little as possible for a reliable changer.

What are the options available? Where would be the best place to look price wise? UltimateBMWParts provided the cost for a unit based on my VIN and stereo type (PIO2), but it was nearly $500 before brackets, much more than I would like to pay. But then again, I may not have many more options. Help...

As far as I know, all stock changers are made by Alpine. I called the dealer and was quoted for about a Grand worth in charges. I just opted for an in dash unit instead. Alpine and Nakamichi are popular units to go with. Are you dead set in having a Changer? The stock head unit is a weak link in the BMW audio system in the first place, so replacing that is not a bad idea...
