CD Changer Err

Hello everyone,

I have a 1995 318i with an original trunk mounted cd changer. The magazine will eject and load, but it will not play CDs. The radio dash displays err. Is this something that can be repaired? Dealer wants $800 for new changer. Best price online so far is $485.

I was going to replace the radio/changer with an after-market radio/cd player but everyone says that I will have to gut the entire system and get new speaker as well. Is this true?

this should be in audio...

a.) have you tried hitting it...

b.) disconnect and reconect forcing a reset.

c.) disasimble it clean it put it back together...

you can get a changer for $200-$275 from some one on this site or another BMW site. It's really pretty reasonable.

And no, you don't need to go all out and replace everything if you get an aftermarket HU. I suggest a good mp3 unit and you won't miss the changer at all. Just installed a Pioneer Premier 560-somthin in my bros jeep last week. He paid 110 for it.

ya i sold mine for somplace around 140 as well. i think..

alpine has some good mp3 units too.

my changer broke so i said the hell with it and went out and put a full system in my bmw i got touchscreen panasonic head unit, polk component set, q logic kick panels and a 12 inch square solo with a big ass kicker amp running everything in the car it sounds awesome

not kidding...before you toss out your changer - hit it hard a couple of times on the top with your fist. I did that to mine, the error message went away, and I've had no problems for 7 months now. Read about this on another website...so I'm not the only one who's benefitted from this.
