Hey I was just wondering, I've been having some problems keeping my brake lights on seems like there is a bad connection. Every once in a while I have to get out and fool with the sockets. And when I get the back two to work the computer tells me problem with brake light circuit.. Where is a good place to look to get that third brake light up and workin ?

Sometimes the sockets go bad. Also, make sure the correct bulb is in there. Look at your manual. Some will fit in the socket and work on occasion but not the right one.

sorry man, I'm lucky I got door panels with this car let along a manual. haha.. I had replaced the passenger side brake light w a bulb and socket that def. weren't the right ones. They however worked, but the p.s light was very dim when I pressed the brake.. I just tried switching it out for what Ithought was the right one and it didn't work .. any ideas..

If the bulb is a 2 part, one for the parking light and one for the brake, it may just have been in backwards. If so, turning on the parking light would light up the brake light part of the bulb in a 2 part taillight. But the E36, like many BMWs, have separate brake and parking lights; so a one part bulb with brake only and another with parking only should be fitted to separate taillights. (This means that the parking light test wouldn't work.)
ill attempt to fool with it tomorrow hopefully I can get something to work properly = ) thanks fellas I'll let you know if it works if not.. back to the drawing boards

ok got the two main brake lights working properly.. Still says to check brake circuit and there is still one out.. That being the one in the rear windshield... Any ideas? I have a socket which I would guess is the right one.. The pins come off at like 120 degress from eachother as opposed to the other brake lights where the pins are 180 of eachother.. Where is a good spot to check for the bad circuit ?
