Blue Tooth Phone for X5

Just had the dealer install a bluetooth interface phone on my 2003 X5. Has some really cool features and I can hear the caller really well. Problem is the caller can't hear me very well (every 2nd or third word is dropped). Its so bad that i've disabbled it. The dealer installed a higher sensitivity mic but no improvement. Any suggestions before I have the systems pulled? Thanks in advance. ghead

well the speakerphone system sounds if it is not a 2way system... meaning you guys cant talk simutaneously. And if it is, then your mic is too sensitive. Try closing your windows and reducing background noise. Or move the mic closer to your face.

I'm not sure what the overhead compartment with the mic looks like in the X5 but on the M3 there are two slots in the overhead console. On the left (driver's side), there is the sunroof switch. On the right (passenger's side) there is the mic. This seems counterintuitive to me.

Reading about someone's DIY Bluetooth installation, they just swapped the positions of the sunroof switch and the microphone so that there was better voice quality, and this seemed to do the trick.

I'll be getting mine installed next week and will ask the dealer to do this. If not, I'll do it myself. Let me know if you can do this, have tried it, and how it works. I'll try to dig up the link for you.

Here is the link for the DIY Bluetooth site. The pictures for swapping sunroof switch and mic are at the end of the install. Also, sounds like you should pay attention to the direction of the mic (arrow on the mic should point towards the front of the car)
