Argh...CD changer woes...

Just installed my OEM CD changer that the BMW dealer told me would fit - last six digits of part number are 468014.

The pins fit great and the power works, as the head unit recognizes the changer. The two problems I have are: 1) the head unit says "Err" after recognizing the changer; and 2) I cannot get the cartridge to eject. The button doesn't seem to work.

There is a great deal of confusion regarding what changer will work for this year and model. Is it possible that I have bought the wrong changer?

a '96 forward changer won't work with a '95 and before head unit.

This model is not a '96 and forward unit. THAT much I do know.

Otherwise, I'm quite confused...

see if you can get the cart out. there is instructions from pres on how to do that around here someplace. and disconnect the thing forcing it to reset. then see if HU sees it then try putting the cart in. be sure the cart is intacted nothing broken or missing cause that can cause problems.

Step one: Unplug power, plug it back in. Should force reset. Press eject.

If no go, move onto step two: Take a credit card and slide it underneath the cartridge as you would when swiping the card at a gas pump. The will manually eject it. Unplug and replug the unit again, and then insert an the cartridge completely empty and let it cycle through. Then eject and load CDs.

If that doesn't work, come back and there are more options, but I don't feel like typing them and one of those will more than likely fix it.
