If I were to buy the Alpine CDA 9831 for my 1998 323is is there an adaptor i can buy so that i can continue to use my BMW 6 disc changer?

Doubt it.

find out who makes the changer. if its an alpine then you might be able to get a adaptor and use the Mbus. but it might be a pioneer in which case no it wont work.
