Alarm Goes Off When Unlocking With Key

Just got a 1998 323ic convertible. Seller had lost all remotes to keyless entry/alarm system. Purchased remote from dealer and had it programmed. Works fine, except…

...when the car has been locked with the remote, unlocking the drivers door [the only one that I tried] with the key [either master key or valet key] sets the alarm off.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

dont use the key after arming the alarm. this is normal behavior for nearly all alarms.

Yes, especially if this is an aftermarket alarm, they usually dont have any way of distinguishing between "key unlocking" and "a thief slim-jimming the locks". If this is a factory BMW alarm then you may have issues within the door lock mechanism.

In short, if you use the remote to lock, use it to unlock; keyed lock then use keyed unlock.

Yeah... it's supposed to do that mate.

If you read the manual tht comes with the alarm (if you have one!) it specifies this.
