Advice for upgrading HK stereo

I just purchased a 2002 BMW325xi. It has the Harmon Kardon upgraded
stereo, but the sound is disappointing. Does anybody have recommendations
to upgrade the system. Is it possible to get good sound by upgrading just the
amp, or do I need to replace speakers and the front end unit?

are you dissapointed in the sound quality or power of the HK system? i assume you mean the SQ, hopefully woobiee will chime in, i dont know much about car audio. where is the sound lacking, bass trebel mids?

YOU HAVE TO GET A NEW HEAD UNIT, i wasn't told that, i just got new speakers yesterday and the sound is all unproportional, and you can't control the bass and treble very good

what about a amp with a equalizer?
