1995 325i radio problems

Hi,
The factory radio just stopped working. I can see the stations, and which cd is playing, but do not hear any sound. We took out the radio, and reconnected one of the wires from the radio into an auxiliary speaker, and sound was heard through the speaker.
The dealer wants $180 just to take a look at it, not counting any repairs. I can't stomach that. Anyone know what the problem may be?

I have the same exact car as you, and I wired an entire aftermarket sound system throughout it myself. I'm assuming you still have the factory head, which is cassette?

I had the same problem as you when I first purchased the car. First bet is to disconnect the positive from your battery so that the head asks you for the 5 digit code. (Only do this if you have the code!!) Your factory head may just need to be reset, and if so this should do it. Input your code and try it again.

Quick question though, you say the radio doesn't work, but what if you put in a cassette/cd? If the cassette/cd player works, you may be looking at a problem/break in the antennae in your rear windshield.

Hi ! guys i think this all problem comes only for CD player because sometime this player are not CD read in proper way and some time radio are not working so i think you need to change CD player then after they work radio and CD play normally.
