'05 E46 Non HK Amp or No Amp

Hello

Does anybody know if the non HK '05 E46 has a factory amp in the trunk?? I took out the trunk liner and found a small aluminum covered box on top of the cd changer rack (no changer, just pre-wired for it). the box was only about 3-4" wide by maybe 6" long. I did not unbolt it, so I am not sure if its the amp or not.
I really want to upgrade the whole system without changing the HU. But I need to know where to start.

More than likely it is. If you have means to post a picture of the box, particularly the wiring side of it, I could probably tell you if it is an amp or not.
