I think it's hit and miss. A friend of a friend in town here found a Z3 for an incredibally good price. I think that's rare, however. 99% of all the ones I saw had a [n unknown] reserve bid, so it wasn't like you could actually bid and get it for 1/2 price or anything.
Combine that with not actually being able to see it and touch it and evaluate it, made it a no-go for me.
I'd say it's workable if you take your time, know how to work ebay, and most importanty, have a friend in the destination where the car is, who can actually check it out, to be sure that it in fact exists, and check on the condition. That's tough to do, however.
There's probably better bargains [with less risk] at local sheriff's auctions and estate sales. That was my experience, anyway.
