What miles can you expect?

I have been looking at purchasing a used 7 series (750IL) and have noticed a number for sale with over 170,000 miles. What kind of miles can you expect from the 12 cylinder engine. I looked at one today that was in great condition, 1988 with the Dinan 7 parts. Ran and looked great. Just wondering how many more miles - assuming you don't hot rod it - that you might get. Yes, this is a question from a newbie!

You can never say for sure. Those V12's were problematic. I have a E32 with 340k miles on it, and it's still running strong, altho i did replace the transmission at 200k miles. I have an inline 6 in mine tho, like i said the V12 is problematic, but as long as it doesnt have any electrical issues y ou can expect 300k miles out of it EASILY.

the earlier v12s are more problematic that the newer ones. what year are you looking at?
