Hello, i am deciding to buy a 1995 740i with 115,000 miles. Asking price is $11,000. There have been 2 previos owners and the former owner ia a mechanic at BMW. I am getting a one year unlimited miiles warranty with the car and it is in perfect shape visibly. Is this a good or at least a fair deal???

Be very careful of the engine, has she been replaced with the Alusil engine?

That i do not know, and how would i go about finding that out. Also, what kind of engine is that and why would i have to worry. Has the original engine been known to go out?? And what exactly happens to the original engine if it has been well taken care of?? thanks

The 1994-1995 M60 engines were prone to failure due to high sulpur content in the gasoline. These were Nikasil engines and BMW recalled and replaced the engines (I do not remember for what mileage or age) with the Alusil engine. Go to www.koalamotorsport.com for their write up on the V8 engines, they also tell you how to confirm which engine you have.

Whever people ask this type of question they many times get multiple responses saying something like "that's way too much money" or things like that. I am sure there will always be a lower price on any car than the one someone considers.

That said, I'd say that your price isn't very sharp but if the car checks out in all ways with no hidden stuff and you are sure everything works as well as it has been very well maintained over the years, then perhaps that is a good price. My only reservation is that the 7 series don't seem to hold their value that well compared to others.

If you love the car, go for it. But if you're not completely sold, I think another will come along at that price or lower.
