Theirs two types of aftermarket intakes guys. COLD air intakes, and HOT air intakes. Please note that if you want to upgrade make sure the intake includes a heat shield to keep all the hot air from the engine out of the intake. Cars run better with cold air as its more dense. That is exactly what the stock intake does. Throwing a filter on the end of the intake tubing will actually decrease your fuel milage and performance, although not very noticeably.

Upgrading your intake can be a good mod, but more for throaty sound and a little bit of a better throttle response. If you were going to turbo your car you would need a whole new intake manifold anyway. The performance gained from an intake is mininmal, unless combined with an exghust, and under drive pullies. If the car is taking in more air then stock, its also getting rid of more air then stock, thus a less restrictive exhuast is needed. Combine all three and you WILL notice a difference in performance.

Ivan, you could have a 5" intake, and as long as the MAF is working correctly you dont need to worry about running rich or lean. The car is designed to compensate appropriatly. Also just because you have a 5" intake doesnt mean your throttle body, or intake manifold is also 5". Their is only so much air you can force into your throttle body at one time, regardless of how big your intake is. And with a Supercharger, you only need a new intake becuase the supercharger takes up the space where the stock airbox was so you need an intake that mounts the filter down low in the bumper.
