Does anyone know of a dealer that has figured out how to install Sirius in a 2004 645. BMW decided not to "prewire" some 2004 cars with Sat prep, even cars where Sat was ordered. They now say Sat can not be installed. I can't believe that a simple $2-5 part is the problem. Any suggestions

No, ANY newer BMW without that $7 installiation wire.....can't have Sirius. That's just the way it goes.

I don't know anything about the model of BMWs you guys are running but that is bull!!! I have an older 3 series, and I was able to get a hold of an adapter box that allows me to run both an aftermarket changer and a XM sat radio off a stock 3 series deck. Try asking someone at an aftermarket stereo shop, because chances are they will be able to get you something to make it work! Especially if it only has to do with a seven dollar wire. You could buy the wire and just run it yourself, remember everything in these cars will come apart.

Don't give up it anything is do able!

FIrst off, it's more than a part, it has to do with compatibility. The head unit is gonna play a pivotal role in your search for sirius. The oem head unit will have a DIN input for external perephial external components (i.e. CD changer, satelite radio tuner, etc.). It would be up to the dealer to add these perephials. Now if your car was not prewired with a DIN cable steming from the head unit, and most likely terminating in your trunk, I'm sure the dealer probably wouldn't care to install it for you; and that is why they say it can't be done. In that instacne, I would recomend ordering these parts from the dealer, and finding a reputable mobile audio installer that will gladly install it for you. IF for some reason your head unit is not so equipped (highly unlikely), than unfortunately your SOL.

You are however, merely exploring oem dealer installed options. THere are number of aftermarket companies that offer adaptors to add such devices. Yes, it may take a few months before they offer such components for your specific car (it is quite new). Such companies as BlitzSafe and Icelink offer various adaptors allowing Bimmer owners to interface a number of technologies with the oem HU. As long as your oem HU has some type of input (most likely a DIN style), you should be able to find what you need to add Sirius.

Keep in mind you can purchase aftermarket Sirius "add on" tuners from your local electronic retailer, but keep in mind these are usually messy and lack the sound qualtiy that the direct connect pieces exhibit.

BTW, If that '04 6er is yours, I'd love to see some pics. Feel free to throw some up in the showroom. I've seen quite a few cabs out there, but the only HT I've seen was in the showroom floor at the stealership.

Uh huh....well go right ahead. And XM...isn't Sirius....so you're still outta luck. And there is a difference in an older 3 series...lets be generous and say you have an e36....even the e36s....don't have the technology and up to date software that the NEW 645Ci SMG.....have. Anywho...don't take my word for it. I just hear stuff and say what I hear...so best of luck to you.

Ok so I was wrong

....somebody please shoot me.

I asked 2 technicians today...and they said if it wasn't pre-wired that you can have it re-installed....but that it would take awhile to install the satalite radio wire.

My appologies...but I would still advise you to talk to your dealership....like I said...don't take my word for it.

so you just like, pick the posts you wish to read, and respond. The info given by myself prior to either of your posts, gives the correct information. You could have saved yourself the time and embarassment if you would just read the entire thread.

Not tryin to sound like an ass, but when people ask questions here, they do so because they don't know the answers. I'm sure they can guess too, that's not what they're looking for.

Well that's the idea. Hypothetically speaking.....I should know more than you about bmws...since I'm around them 5-6 hours a day at the dealership....especially the 6s....we have 5 at our dealership right now. When I responded to the question....I thought I knew since I've asked this before on an e46/e60 to a sales person....and he specifically told me...that the $7 wire would not be able to be re-placed so that the customer couldn't enjoy Satelite radio since it wasn't pre-wired before hand. I figured that it would be the same for all series. When I asked the questions to the technicians...there were 2 645Ci(s) sitting next to me one a Coupe and the other a Convertible...both black. One with Chrome rims(the Convertible) and the other stock rims.

I have confidence in myself....so I only answer the ones that I'm sure about....and I did believe I was right, but I guess in the end, I wasn't. I didn't believe the one technician..so I asked a different one...just to make sure. And the sales person said that the Parts department said that it couldn't be done....so thats how it ended.
