I just bought a 2001 X5 and it has a bubble in the middle of the dashboard. I looks like the previous owner had a radar detector on the dash and the heat started to melt the rubber. Has anyone heard of this problem before? Does anyone have any ideas of how this can be repaired without having to replace the whole dashboard? Does this seem like a manufacturer's defect?

Thanks for your help!

Can you post a pic of the damage? They have mobile interior repair guys who may be able to take care of it. Itd be cheaper than a new dash. Manufacturers defect? Because the radar detector melted it? How is that a manufacturing defect? I think your on your own with this 1.
