On my 1985 735i According to the tires that are currently on my rims, the size is p220/55R390. So, is there any regular tire size that will fit this rim? If not is there a different set of rims that will look good with my car but still be BMW rims of similar size? Meaning I'm not really looking for aftermarket rims.
Again a problem I had on mine. The stock rim only fit one tires, the rim is like a 14.5 inch rim, and only the Michelin TRX fit the damn thing. I put a set of mid 90's 5 series rims on it off a 530i and it looks great!!! I attached a picture. Good luck and keep me informed!
The 390 mm wheels are actually 15.35 inches in diameter, I have seen people put standard 15" tires on them without any problems. As far as I know all of the BMW 5 hole rims are the same bolt pattern size and center hole. Another choice may be finding some Chevrolet 4 3/4" hole wheels, (camaro, corvette) the center hole is 3/32 smaller and can be honed out with a diegrinder and sanding wheel carefully. Or machined to fit. I found a set of IROC aluminum wheels and did this. The BMW bolt hole pattern measures 4.72" compared to 4.75 for the chevrolet wheels. The offset is even close to BMW's

Chevy rims on a 7 series BMW? Seems different, and thats kinda cool that they can almost fit. I wasn't sure how the pattern worked, but I am sure most rims by BMW will fit and I know there are a lot of extra BMW rims around from people who put on what they call "nicer" ones even though many times they are not. Good luck with the wheels!
I have to say, those rims look nice on the 7 series. How much did you get those from and where, I might consider putting those on. You said that some guys have put on 15 inch tires without any problems, would a place like Sears do that for me, or would they object to putting the 15 inch tires on it?
Sears wouldn't do it for me, I tried that once actually. I had a friend who put new rims on his 530i and sold those to me for 200 bucks! You can find decent rims sometimes on E bay, do you want me to check with my BMW buddies around for some? Let me know, if I come across a set I will contact you!
They made the car look real nice, I was pleased with how they looked. Staying with BMW rims definately makes the car look better!
Slightly OT but:
I once had 2 flats in one day and got home in my 2002 using a borrowed Fiat spare. Not something I would like to do long term but for 13 miles it worked fine. The second flat was caused by a door handle that dropped off some car!
