If you do a lot of highway driving the 3.91 might be a little much. The 3.73 is an improvement without as much sacrifice to mpg.
Then again my gear ratios are pretty similar to a 3.91. I'll be cruising along at 70mph at about 3k.

I owe PSU about $2500 before I can go back to school. That's priority 1.
I make decent money at my job, so I can spare the cash for a transmission if the price is right. I'm not about to spend $2000 on one, or sacrifice a substantial ammount that I could spend on school. I'd most likley be doing most of the work myself with a few helping hands (read: give friends beer)
I'm dying to see this thing on the road again. It's been four years since the car has been running. If you can find one and my financial situation allows, I will probably jump on it. $4-500 sounds good to me, but if it's close... I really want that car running. My budget really also depends on automatic or manual. The swap to 5 speed is gonna be more expensive, but the automatic transmissions do have a nasty glitch in them. The A-clutch will burn up if the car is revved high in park or neutral. Ideally, I'd like to resolve that problem by going to a manual. They did do an update to the trans to fix that problem... but i'd be willing to spend more if it's a 5 speed.
