I would guess that the closest thing to an m7 we'll ever get is the 760 sport... I think i'd be fast enough for anybody.... when you consider the incredible comfort you're driving in
I haven't heard of an M7, but they are going to make the M6 for sure, and i'm curious to see which will be faster, the new M5 or the M6. I think the M6 will have the new M5's V10, so it will be a matter of weight and gearing.

Nothing compares against the CL65AMG and SL65AMG. There is not sedan version yet planed. Using Maybach's V12 and coupling it with bigger turbos and intercooler the AMG 65 series provides upwards of 738 Torque and 634BHP. These numbers would take the SL65 into mid 3 seconds 0-60 and quarter mile in high 11's .
So there is no chance any bmw is currently in a position to fight with BENZ on the straight line performence. The only way I see it posibble: if bmw use force inducution in the new 5.5 V10 or take the displacement to 8.1 L.
PS: EVEN in the last C&D issue thier long term test SL600 trumped many super cars on the stats. 0-60=3.6 secs and 1/4mile in 11.9 secs. That is faster than GT2, GT3, straddle, Viper, current ZO6, Gallardo and many other exotics.

damn 8.1L would be insane, thats like a heavy duty industrial use chevrolet
gas mpg: 3 (city) 16 (highway)
i think the S class and SL class own the 7 series engines
but the 3 and the 5 own the E and the C
not sure if the z4 owns the SLK
i love comparing them.. botttom line is that volkswagen has no place in germany

Your numbers must be crossed bud. IF the sl600 is doing 0-60 in 3.6secs, Sl65 would be faster.
PS: I get to drive the S55 from time to time and believe me, it is one mighty four door sedan(saloon). It is scary to go that fast in a luxury saloon and whoop on cobras and vets.
If you want a sporty 7 and the stock item isn't good enough for you..... then take your suitacse full of cash to alpina for a B7.
I think Schnitzer do something similar too. Have a look at their sites for performance details...
BMW don't tend to get involved with the BHP arguement. Merc are power crazy but I don't think that their cars are 'better' for having 700+lb/ft of torque. As BMW show, it's all about balance and power/weight.
That is why we have the V10 in the new M5. If they wanted to make it a rocket then a pair of sequential turbos the size of dustbins would have done the job. However, they have made it a light, powerful, balanced Formula 1 saloon car. The first ever.
