1997 740iL airbag light on

Well, I don't know why it turned on. I took it to a shop. Unfortunately, the computer doesn't communicate with the scanner. Does anyone know if the airbag light is a common problem in these cars? I haven't changed anything in it. No battery change, no other electronics installed or taken out. The milllage is ~135Kmiles.

Also the computer doesn't respond to the scanner. This might become a more serious problem if the car has other issues in future.
would love to hear your comments/suggestions

Thanks, used:

the E38 never really had much of a ongoin problem with airbag lights coming on. The most likely culprits are
1. Seat belt buckle switch (either side)
2. Seat occupancy sensor
3. Faulty air bag
or
4. Faulty control unit

sounds like your communication issue may indicate a troublesome control unit.
