wmccally is an unknown quantity at this point
In warm weather, radio sometimes can not be turned on (nor the CD player). (Often the display will light up, but there is no sound.) When the radio IS operating, it will stay on for any given driving session. But after turning off the ignition (even briefly; e.g., to fill up the gas tank), the problem may recur after restarting the car.

In cool or cold weather (below about 65 degrees F), the radio always seems to function. Oddly enough, I sometimes have the opposite problem . . . when I turn off the ignition, the radio keeps playing (even though the display goes dark). When this occurs, it is useless to hit the radio "off" switch. To turn the radio off, I need to first turn the ignition on -- which lights the radio display -- then turn the radio off before switching off the ignition.

Seems I have a gremlin somewhere in the electronics. Not sure if it's caused by the radio, the amplifier in the trunk, or perhaps some kind of ignition relay. Any ideas?

there have been several revisions to the MID (multi information display) which is the keypad you use to control your radio ( most people think it is the radio) The early MID's would blank out and do some of the things that youre talking about. Im not saying this is your problem but it maybe a good starting point. good luck
