I have a 2000 528i wagon and last week it began to run like crap - rough idle, lack of power, it even sounded like is was struggling and was louder than normal! Anyway, took it to my mechanic and he tells me that it has a cracked valve cover and is "sucking air." After having it diagnosed, it barely made it home and now I am really wondering what the deal is. Has anyone heard of this? Is this common with this engine? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy
While you're replacing the valve cover I would also take the time and get the valve cover gasket replaced as well. The gasket itself is like $30 and will also make a huge difference with a new valve cover.
After I wrote my response I had a thought in my head that the gasket is probably included. It would only make sense in this case. Best of luck and definitely let us know how it turns out.
