I personally think that if you go bigger than 18in. on an E46 you will regret it. My suggestion is to look for a set of 18inch M3 replica wheels on the internet.
They will look fantastic on your car and handle well too. You will also have a huge number of well-priced tires to choose from as well. In the long run I think you will be glad you did.
My E46 with M-Sport has the 18's and it looks wonderful and drives that way too, even over bad pavement. IMHO.
