Grey Market 635CSI

I'm looking at a guys 635CSI. He bought it out of Germany in 1979, apparently hot off the production line. He brought it to California right after he bought it. It's licensed as a 1980. It's really a 1979-80. He says it's got a low low serial number, I haven't seen it yet, but I believe this guy, he seemed to know what he was talking about. It's a five speed, which is awesome for me, but he said that since he brought it over in the 80's, he didn't have to do anything to make it U.S. legal. This means no side lights screwed into the sheet metal, no smog or emission changes, no engine mods, it's stock right now, but stock from Germany. He brought it over before "grey market" was even an issue. I am a little uneasy to find out how hard it may be to get it to pass state emissions in Utah, but I want it soo bad...does anyone have any suggestions? Any advice?
