Your Engine Rpm@60 Mph In Top Gear?

Hey just a quick question, my 95 525 with an m50 vanos engine and a 4-speed auto trans. when im on the expressway and cruising at 60 MPH in top gear, my engine RPM seems to be alittle high 2300, and then if i go up to 70 its almost at 3000, is this normal to you guys? what is your engine RPM if you ever noticed at 60 in top gear. please include year and car model and gearbox (auto or man)

I have a '97 528 with a 4 speed auto and it's usually hovering at around 2,000rpm at 60. It doesnt usually go to 3,000 unless I'm cruising around 90

no in fact this happens when i drive it ver easily trying to keep the rpms down and its at 2200, is there anyone out there with my exact same car?

I assume mine is in the 1900 or lower range at 60(99 540i auto).....rarely do i cruise at 60....gotta love arizona freeways. my typical commute every weekend to phoenix, i set cruise at 87-92 mph and rpm's are around 2600 for 180 miles.

i have a 95 525i with a manual, 60mph in fifth around 2550rpm-2600 cruising, 75 in fifth around 3250rpm

do you guys think that my problem is caused from a 3.something stock rear diff? should i get the gear swaped out to a 2.something so my rpms will be lower?

Actually, this doesn't answer your question, but answers the poll and provides info maybe someone else can use. I have a 1999 540/6 and my rpm at 60mph wasn't in one of your survey ranges. FWIW, When I'm traveling 60 mph in 6th gear, my engine's turning a lazy 1750 rpm. Maybe that's why I've been averaging 24 mpg in my (80% highway) commuting.

mines a '93 e34 525 m50 pre-vanos, 5sp auto - the '95 525 was 4 speed?
rpm was 1950 (just below 2k) at 60mph on the OBC (~63mph on speedo).
