Your 530i Leak Rain in a Downpour?

On my 2002 530i I first noticed some leaking when I was pressure washing the car and water leaked in the rear door. Of course I don't do this anymore and I've never been a fan of pressure washing anyway, just use it to initially rinse the car.
But now if it rains a lot, my back passgr floorboard is soaking wet. I don't see where it is leaking. Any experience with a fix? common problem?

Do you have a sunroof? If so, the drains may be clogged.

There are drains at each corner that run down the A and C pillars; pouring a measuring cup at each corner (roof open of course) will let you see which drains work as the water comes out under the car. And yeah, we get very heavy downpours here, sometimes it almost looks like fog!

I think they are big enough, but I've never tried it. Instead, I've just run water through each one at every washing of the car.

I'll try that as a test of the sunroof drains.
Any chance the rear door seals are the problem?

There's no reason to assume not.

Hello I have had a water leak problem for over a month now. I finally figured it out. 2003 530I
I recently changed my trim window to shadow black, the leak seem to have started then. Anyway I took off the inside door panel , and discovered the inner foam plastic had separated from the door at the bottom. So I re sealed it. It dryed in 1 hour and I now have no more leaks. I guess the air pressure from closing the rearr door over the years caused it fail. Harry Jones

Thanks, Harry
I have never taken off the door panel to look inside. What did you seal it with?

Harry,
How do the door panels come off? I don't want to break anything. Are they just clips that I would pry off?
Thanks for any info.

530i leak

First I had to take the hex head screw out of inside the door handle.
Then I took a flathead screwdriver and ran it along the bottom . I pryed popped the door panel loose. It snaps off easily . It would be hard to break it.
You do not have the take the whole panel off..Just pull it out ...

If your sunroof drains need clearing, I use the twine from a garden strimmer.

Thanks Marti and Harry, all good tips!
I poured water at the back corners of the sun roof. It drained out the back ok. I'm sure I have an inner door panel problem that needs resealing. Seems quite sommon I hear.
