I am a new member and have recently bought a 1997 540 from a friend. Winter is fast approaching and I am new to rear wheel drive cars. As I live in the N.E. I am considering buying winter snow tires, what is the forum's experience with snow tires and BMW's. By the way I am a complete BMW convert this is a great drivers car! |
Congrats on your awesome car! If you live in the Northeast, I would HIGHLY recommend you consider calling/checking out the Tire Rack (
www.tirerack.com) and similar businesses for specials they run on pre-mounted winter tires. The tires 540's mostly come with are NOT all-season radials. I am considering buying two pre-mounted winter tires for the rear of my 540 sport, but I also have one other option - if it snows I can always use my wife's Ford Expedition 4X4. :P
The pre-mounted/pre-balanced thing makes it very easy to remove/replace your own tires/rims (without having to pay high $$$ spin-balance charges) and you avoid damage to your good summer rims.
