driving to work this morning in 97 540i, the windshield wipers came on all by themselves. Turned the car off and on again a couple of times and could not get them to turn off. Anyone ever had this happen?

It could be a bad motor. There is a "park" switch in the motor, and if the module doesn't see this input, then the wipers can go by themselves and not stop. It could be the wiper module, or even the switch too. Hard to say.
