Question Windscreen rubber seals

My 99 528 was built in Aug 99 so is almost 10 yrs old. The seals on the windshield/windscreen are crumbling. There is no leakage but a good portion of the edge of the glass on the drivers (left) side is exposed. While washing the car today I noticed that the same process is beginning on the rear window.
What's up with this. Was there a recall at some point for this condition?

If no recall on this then I suppose a glass specialist will have to remove both pieces of glass to replace the seals?

Thanks,
Jim

Rubber seal go dependant on enviroment factors, cold, hot, wet, dry etc. Yes you will have to have the glass removed and new seals fitted and the seals I would say from the dealer.

On my model there are two small rubber pieces around the rear door which crumble, mine hasnt as its always been garaged, although my mates car which is 4 years newer than mine have start to crumble, on going to a BMW meeting some of the 7 series didnt have any rubber left, so its all down to how you look after the exterior and where its kept and the major factor the climate you live in.

Thanks Marti,
I was hoping that there was a defective seal recall.
I like the color of your car. My '76 2002 was that color and I always got compliments on it.

Even if there was a recall it normally only lasts up to 18 months so your out of date anyway im afraid, thanks for the compliment on the colour of my car and yes I to get compliments........when its clean and waxed!!
