I was describing to a friend how I recently installed new LED CELIS tail lights and how they required that I drill a couple holes and file away some portions of the back of the vehicle where the tail lights fit into. He asked if I painted the drill holes and filed metal with paint or primer to prevent them from rusting. Well, I didn't. In fact, I didn't even think about it until he said something. There was no mention of doing so in the retrofit instructions either.
Is this something I should be concerned about? Should I remove the lights and put some touch up paint on the bare metel? Or is it not necessary?
I added a factory spoiler to my aunts maxima and in the instructions it said to paint the holes with primer.
We took some spray primer and sprayed it on some poster board and used a qtip to apply it.
I think the car may long be in it's grave before rust in that area becomes a concern
but just for peace of mind like torque says paint them if you've got nothing better to do.
