I read in one of the forum topics that 245/45/17 tires will fit my 2002 530 sport. I also read that it will correct the speedo error (make it read true instead of 3-4 mph fast). Is this true?

Also, has anyone tried the Fuzion ZRi tire yet?

I have the fuzion ZRi tires on my 530i, I have them installed on a set of 17inch Racing Dynamic rims. So far so good, I just got the car and those were the tires on it. I read some reviews on the tires and overall they seem to be a very competent tire. The only downside to them is a lot of wind noise, but I guess thats expected when you got a large set of tires, they are fairly wide. Overall traction seems to be superior in my experience, in dry and wet conditions. Go for them, they look great and perform great.
I did post a thread a week or two ago which explained EXACTLY which size tyres and rims will fit on an e39, and as this sort of question is so frequently asked I said maybe the mods would like to pin it - perhaps not, maybe they like to see the same questions posted time and time again.

I understand that BMW recommends the tire size I have on my car and that 245/45/17 is not "recommended." I have, however, seen topics where members have put them on their vehicles and have liked them because it corrects the speedo calibration to read the true speed more closely.
I was hoping to get more input that one memory of a string -- more like a few members responding that they, too, have had good luck with the set up.
Thanks for the help and the time you spend in this forum helping others!

How do people know about this correction??? Unless they have a speed gun handy and do a series of strict tests.
I've just had a play with a respected tyre size converter using the BMW recommended minimum tyre size (as fitted to the 520i) as a base and input all the other recommended BMW tyre sizes. At 70 mph there is a speedometer differential of +0.69 -0.52 mph so well under 1mph then. Adding your chosen tyre to the equasion gives a differential of +0.98 at 70mph over the BMW recommended 17" at 235/45/17 so in fact these tyres will put your speedo out rather than correct it (but less than 1mph - is that worth bothering about???) also remember these differentials will increase the faster you go!!
