Why does only cold air comes out of the rear vent? - BMW Forum

When i have the heat on..the rear vent on the armrest only blow cold air? Why is that..anyone know why?

I don't know either. But I noticed that my e34 does the same.

In my 7 cold also comes out of that vent and the hot air comes from under the seats, why I dont know...maybe the vent is for cold air-con only..

My E34 had cold and warm air coming out the back vent, but the E39 is only cold. One time I was messing with it and i reached back and it was warm...but I have never got it to do that again.

Because it's a fresh air vent only ... aka air from the outside. You won't get cool or warm air through it, just fresh air from the outside.

That said, in my old e34 something screwed up where I wasn't getting warm air from the dash, but it was blowing out of that vent ... somehow. Damn electrics.
