I am looking to buy a 2001 530i with 50K and everything on the car is perfect except the wheels. These wheels are the billet BBS style wheels with rust/corrosion around the billet parts of the wheel. Does anyone have this issue or know why this is happening? Urgent to buy this car since its a good price. Thank you.
They've maybe just not been looked after - It's all well and good washing and waxing the car every sunday but wheels like that need just as much care and attention as the body work - if they've not had any wax/polish on them for the last 3yrs I've no doubt they would rust. There's also the thought that they may be cheap bbs replicas which again if not looked after are prone to rust. Perhaps the whole car has not been looked after? - some people just don't feel the need to wash their cars for months/years - this doesn't necessarily damage the paintwork and a bit of spit and polish will bring it up again, so the dealers valeter may have done a good job, but if rust has set in on the rims they need professionally repairing
I believe those are two piece wheels you've got there.
If you want, you can try scraping the rust, but it might not help much. But if you want to give it a shot in hopes that its just surface rust, you can take the wheel off and have a competent person take the wheels apart (yes, each one of those studs is a functional bolt to hold the wheel together) and give it a thorough cleaning and put it back together.
