Hi guys, a few months ago I picked up a 2003 E39 540i Sport, 6spd. The car is definitely a tire burner, but I'd like to open up the exhaust. I noticed it has true dual exhaust, with two front catalytic convertors, and then an enormous muffler assembly thingy behind the differential. Also, behind the bumper, why are there two mufflers. If I were to remove one of the rear mufflers, how loud would the car be?
Welcome sideways. Don't hate the forums, this is actually a really good board. We're glad you're here, now lets see if we can help.
Personally I wouldn't recommend removing the muffler(s). I would opt for an aftermarket cat-back assembly, this will sound the best and keep the decible levels down.
I hope you enjoy your car, you made a great choice !
