I've noticed in a couple of posts that there are a couple of guys who have found ways to brighten / whiten their angel eyes. Is it possible to replace a bulb with a pseudo-xenon bulb, or something like that, and get the effect of a whiter light in the angel eyes?
Count me in also... I hope to have a set of Angel Eyes installed on my 528i sometime within the next 12 months and I'd also like to make them brighter and whiter.

Excellent question.There are dozens of variations out there available with auto-bulbs.I would also love to know the anwser to this question.I fitted the ring angel eyes to my 96 540i,and then put 55watt osram H7 white halogen bulbs in which are actually quite a bright lite white lite.
The xenon gas filled bulbs are very much brighter,and whiter,however I think you have to fit quite an expensive ballast syestem etc to hook it all together ?
Perhaps there are gas filled bulbs that click straight in...............yes i am confused...........the sellers dont make it very clear what the deal is here.I hope those more technically advanced here in electronics can point us to the bulbs we should go for ?
Chers.

I'm assuming you all have e39 cars equiped with oem angel eyes. I'm sure this can be fixed and I can put you in touch with the guys to talk to. They sold me a very high quality replacement lighting system for my e36. Not only do they offer entire headlight assemblies, but they also offer just the halos (rings, DDE, etc.)
Like I said, I have delt with them personally and they offer excellent customer service. HERE}
As for e39's not quiped with HID xenon's, those are also now sold in the form of aftermarket kits. As with the angel eyes, they are manufactured by very reputable companies such as Phillips and Hella.{HERE}
Unlike cheap imitation "xenon gas filled bulbs" that come in the form of h1, 9005, 9007, etc., these are actual HID upgrades that come with the plug and play wiring harness, ballasts, and xenin bulbs.
I know I sound like a commercial, but as a poor college student, I do my homework before spending money. Lemme know if you have any questions Oh, here is where I am so far...
I've got a similar dilemma. I just installed my set in my 540i and noticed that the driver side rings are brighter than the passenger side rings. So I'm also wondering if the bulb that serves as the light source for the rings can be swapped out.
I contacted Umnitza (I think that's how it's spelled) asking about a quick and cheap way to whiten OEM / HID angel eyes. They said they are working with a supplier right now on a product that will allow us to do that. I've been placed on an email notification list for contact when it's ready.
I'll post here when I find out and let you guys know too.
Are the OEM Angel Eyes/halo rings lit by LED lights, like the after market DDE kits?
I have the DDE kit on my car (got them from ebay) and they're LEDs.
You can replace them with brighter LEDs.
I think the Umnitza DDEs are lit with LEDs too...?
Not sure if you guys have found the solution to your dilemma but.....
You can buy an LED upgrade on ebay for £29 a set.
Simply remove the old yellowy bulbs & refit NEW LED bulbs.
I can make this super easy for all of you as my kit is in route... they are backordered at the moment, but I have my name on the list so as soon as they come in, they are shipping to me... but PIAA makes an upgrade kit... its a little over $100 but it will make the LED halo ring match your HID headlights...
