Where can I get a 540I motor

I'm going to buy a 99 540I 6 speed.
It needs an engine, where can I get a 99 or later 540 engine???
I heard it has to be 99 or later because earlier specs are different.

Try Ebay. There were a few 540 engines and even a 4.6l X5 engine on there just last week.

I agree, perfect opportunity for a S62 engine. I can recall one on ebay a while back for sale, but if you do a google search you will find one...

putting in a S62 would be very costly cause of the fly-by-wire throttle and other new technological stuff. i'd try getting the 4.6L from the X5 or the 4.8L from the alpina Z8 unless they too dont use throttle cables, but i dont think so

Couldn't you bypass the electronic throttle and install mechnical throttle linkage? Or am I making this to be much simpler than it is.
