What grade of oil?

Hello,

What grade of oil is recommended for the new to me 1993 525I touring...car has 227,000 miles. 20-w50?

Most people use 5W-30, 0W-40 or 10W-30 ... it all comes down to what you prefer and what your engine seems to run best with.

I've been running on 10w-30 for as long as I've had the car and it seems to be fine.

And please check what the previous owner was using as far as synthetic vs petroleum based ... a switch from one grade to the other can bring along more leaks than you want.

I used to run 5W30 in the winter and 10W30 in the summer on my '95

all depends on the operating temperatures of your vehicle i run 20w 50 in Australia due to the warmer weather

oils ain't oils ,,, ask your local mechanic for some legal advice on choosing suitable oil for your engine/driving conditions ..also check your user manual it should have operating temps for different grades of oil ( recommended)used:
