Hi guys, I really suck with cars im not in with the "lingo" and stuff.. im thinking of getting a BMW 5 series, but i dont know the difference between the "E12, E28, E60..." and so on. Can someone please tell me what the difference is and is the the 5 series considered a fast car? I know its not an M series but will i be able to atleast hold my own with other cars? thank you guys for all your help. this is my first post so be nice =) .
The above link mentions the "E" meaning....
In simple terms, this is the chassis/frame. For example, the latest 5 series 2005 & on is an E60. From 1997-2003, the previous chassis (or style) was a E39... Prior to '97, the 5 series was coded E34... and so on... get it? The same applies to the rest of the BMW line up. This helps when you're trying to look for parts.
Is this clear?
Two Tips of my own:
1) Don't get an older 540 or 528 if you cannot work on your car yourself. Bill Gates himself doesn't have enough money to pay the dealer to fix and maintain every little thing on these cars.
2) Test drive a bunch of different ones. Go to multiple dealers. Look at different color combos, try different options, and educate yourself. None of us will be able to tell you which model/year/color/options you will like best and which will fit your needs. Only YOU can decide that.
