Weird Lighter Plug Problem

Ok, I have a weird problem with my cig lighter plug. My lighter itself works when I push it in. It's original BMW lighter. The problem is that none of my other accessories work. My cell phone charger, radar detector, none of them want to work in that plug.

Any ideas???Is this one of those weird BMW designs that I have to go to the dealer and buy special adapter or something? My buddy has X5 and his stuff works normal.

Not necessary so. Look inside the lighter socket; if cooked get yourself a new socket. Mine works with any plug except the Nextel charger where I have to work it into the socket to get it connected.

I have a weird problem also...when i put in my cell phone charger (motorola), i have to install so the pins/conductors face sideways against the socket...see if that works...if the pins are up and down in mine it won't work....

I'm trying to change the lighter socket on my 98 528i. I can't seem to get it out. Can someone please help??

It's just clipped in. Two little prongs hold it in. Push them in and wiggle it out.
