I've got a 523i SE (E39) 1996 with a handful of quirks.
The Warning light for the right brake/tail light comes on but all the bulbs seem to operate normally.
Secondly, the air bag light is on. Our local dealer was unable to resolve this. They have changed the loom as well.
Thirdly, why does the climate control appear to be doing something even after the key has been removed? I cant seem to de-activate it with the Rest button.
as for your brake lights. need to check all bulbs including 3 brake light not sure if yours is led or not but bulbs need to be the right wattage and need a good contact make sure they are not loose. All the bulbs need to be working that is when lights are on brake lights are applied and turn signals. recheck them again otherwise i really don't know. As for your other issues. The dealer should be able to track down why the airbag light is coming on.
