I want to change my 98' 528i to a manual transmition. Does anyone know how much it would be? I know very little about mechanics so I would want to get it installed. Does anyone know of any totaled manual 528i's (or ones with similar trans) that I could strip parts off of? Please help
I don't know for sure but I'd guess that it'd cost a lot more than it would be worth.....
The labour alone would be a fearful amount but you'd pick the tranny up from a breakers for peanuts.
It'd probably work out cheaper to sell your car and buy a used manual one.

Ahy Powerm,
You are a keen and brave man !
My thoughts here would be to trade the car and move on.
Consider this list of bullshit before getting your overalls on:
Cutting and balancing your existing driveshaft to fit behind your new trans.
The agony of fitting a pedal-box under the dash of a 5series.(The entire dash has to come out first).
Fitting and adjusting clutch fork and cable.
Purchasing and hooking up new speedo cable.(Completly different in a manual)
This is quite a big job as you can see,and probably more trouble and money than its worth. Many may disagree with me,but I can see a huge cost to get this job done at a shop.
Good luck.
Yea, but what a pain in the ass to do that... Sell my car, find a new car that is similar (prob wont be better) just sounds like more problem then its worth. I may just wait until after Highschool.
Yeah, that's what I'm doing...just waiting until later. I have an autobox too; I wasn't being particular one way or another when I bought my car, and although I kindof wasnted a stick my car was a great deal so I jumped on it. In the future, once I'm out of college (and after we buy my wife-to-be her own BMW ), my goal is to sell my auto 540i and get a 6-speed. After that...an M5

Mines an auto, when i get out of highschool, somewhere in between highschool and college, or after college, im definatley undertaking my auto tranny to 6 speed project.
On another note, In a week or so i should have pics of all 3 bimmers side by side...gonna look sweet.

If you pass your licence in a autobox in the UK then you aren't legally allowed to drive manual.
