I have a 1998 528i and want to replace the headlight bulbs to those that are bright white. Can anyone recommend the lights that would work with my car? I don't need the very best, I just like the way those white lights look.

if you dont want the HID's which is the best
go with a HID matched bulb, or as sp0rky suggest a hyper white bulb.
Just know that to properly do an HID conversion, you dont just change the ballast and bulb even though that still lights up. Be courteous to oncoming traffic, get the new headlight assemblies too.
WARNING: This from the service manager at my local Bimmer joint. You don't want to exceed the 55 watt output of the bulb you are using now (going up to something like 57 watts is okay). Why? Well the plastic covers around your lights can - and have - melted in the past from too high a wattage output.
Try the silvania super silverstars. These are the brigghtes you can buy (ALMOST white in color). Other members on the 3 series forum have recommended them on their cars. have bought and are happy with them. I tried a pair of Piaa bulbs ($70 A PAIR). It was a waste of money since it was not even close to the HID look... Go to Bavauto. com for additional info. in regards to your bulb size.
I upgraded my headlights to HID's (xenon/w angel eyes), expensive but worth it. I got tired of purchasing bulbs that promise the white light "LOOK"...
