Hi everyone

I have E39, 1997 with manual transmition.
Problem:
When I start moving there is some metal noise coming from. sounds to me, transmition. Also when changing from 1 to 2 speed.
From my past expirience with another car , not bimmer, sounds like U-Joint.

Does anybody have any comments

Thanks a lot

what about in reverse? if it doesn't make the noise in reverse it could be your tranny.

it could be the carrier bearing becasue there isn't traditional u-joints on your car there are jsut rubber bushings.

Prop shaft and gearbox faults are uncommon on BMW I'd look at the clutch first and then the gearbox rear mounts especially if you got an oil leak.
