Turbo (diesel) question...

Hi everybody,

New on this forum, so, How do you guys do? Anyway, I have a small question regarding my turbocharger since I see quite some diesel threads on this forum, maybe you guys can help me out.
When I'm standing behind my car (1995 e34 525tds) listening to the exhaust, I can hear my turbo whirr even when idling. Of course you can hear the whistling noise when you drive or rev it up in neutral but the whirring noise worries me a bit because I'm about to have some stuff fixed on my rear axle and I'm wondering if it's still worth the trouble. I'm not going to replace the turbo in this car, slightly to expensive.

of course it will always "whirr" some at the exhaust... the turbo impeller is powered by your exhaust gas and will always spin(like a turbine) for as long as the engine is running

If you're experiencing no performance issues, there's likely no worries. I'm sure you give the turbo a cool down idle after any harder than normal driving.
