Ok...this is my problem: I have a '98 528i which is a beaut...but for some reason my trunk doesnt work. I can open it manually but the trunk doesnt respond to key button or even the interior's trunk button. Basically...when i turn my car on it shows the car on the display and shows a bar behind the car showing that the trunk is open. BUT ITS NOT!!! whats wrong?....im thinking the trunk actuator..if so...how do i take it out and stuff...its like no power is reaching my trunk because even when i do it manually the light for inside the trunk does not come on. Please email me at rjparikh@gmail.com or reply to this message please....PLEASEEE I really need help! Thanks in advance.
It is most likely your trunk actuator. I had the same problem lately but in my case, the actuator stayed in the open position which means that I could not close the trunk anymore.
Go on the BMW Tips webstie (http://www.bmwtips.com/) in the Tips and Tricks, they have a good description on replacing it. You can buy the part at Bavauto for around $80.
Thanks so much everyone! I will check the fuses but for some reason I couldn't find a fuse for just the trunk so I'm thinking its the actuator. Thanks so much for the help!
