Hi all. Just got a 2000 540i sport package and I absolutely love it. I traded an '04 Acura TL in for this and couldn't be happier.
However, I do have a question. How do the trip computer functions work? I looked in my manual and cant see how to reset the Avg MPG and my dealer here in Kansas City couldnt tell me.
Look to the right of the radio for a button labeled "BC" and press it. This brings you into the computer control mode on the center MID. CONSUM1 and CONSUM2 (or something like that) are two separate MPG monitors that you can reset individually. To do so, just select one of them, and the press the SET button.

It COULD be, but there's no way he could possibly know that. I think what 540sport was implying was that the salesman didn't know how to reset them, and so said that they couldn't be reset and counted from the beginning of the life of the car. When a car salesman doesn't know something, he makes shit up. I've tripped up so many that way...I ask them something I already know about the car that may not be a common question they get every day and see if they BS it. Works every time.
