i am ignorant of the specifics of the 5 series, but the principles should be the same as e36 which i'm familiar with.
drive the car a few miles to warm up the tranny. jack up the car on jackstands (must be level). remove the FILLER bolt first (important), then the drain bolt to drain the fluid. you MUST remove the FILLER bolt first, otherwise if you remove the drain bolt first and discover the filler bolt is frozen, you are basically stuck with no way to refill.
after draining, replace drain bolt (with new crush washer if present). use your handy $2.99 hand pump to put new fluid in the filler hole until it starts to overflow. replace filler bolt (with new crush washer if present).
i do not know off the top of my head. have to check bentley. perhaps this is where they require the "special machine"?
