"TRANS PROGRAM" Warning light

Hello everyone-

I was driving my 1995 525i ~20 miles per hour today and went to hit my gas and nothing happend. There was no noise from the engine or anything out of the ordinary... it just drifting. I stopped and turned off the car. Turned the car back on, and pressed the gas. Still nothing- it coasts really slow (i guess its in limp mode) it has the warning "Trans program" on the dash of the car.

Does anyone know what steps I should take to correct this issue? I'm hoping that it doesn't need a new TRANS caus thats lots of $$

Thanks

MIke

yeah The TRANS FAIL SAFE program. locks the transmission in 3rd gear... with the 525 would feel very sluggish....

You need the codes read. How many miles are on the vehicle? It could be slippage in the transmission or just a lose connection on the trans or computer.

Talking

check tranny oil level!!!! not many people actually do.

check all your fuses first. (am not sure) but there may be a fuse for the tranny circuit... and that wd be an easy fix

THEN, if not, u can try to disconnect the battery overnight... let's try and see if the tranny brain can reset itself. ;-)

If that doesn't work, the take alpine's advise... check wiring for loose connections.

Hello everyone! I have a 97 528I that also has this issue. The question I have is about how much will it cost to have the transmission rest or reprogrammed?
